Day 14: Being Attuned to God’s Heart

At my elementary school, there was an elite playground club called the Puppy Pals. That’s right—an exclusive society of girls who would pretend to be dogs all recess long. I would have done anything to be a Puppy Pal. The Puppy Pal girls had everything in common—if one of them hated green beans at lunch, they all did. If one of them loved art class, they all did. It was as if their time together had changed the way they thought about everything. It’s been psychologically proven that twins can physically feel each other’s pain. Hundreds of anecdotes exist of one adult twin feeling a pain in their leg and then finding out that their twin had fallen and broken that same limb. It’s as if their connection to one another actually affected their emotions and experiences. What if the same principle is true of our relationship with God? In Psalm 97:10, the psalmist writes “Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” The Bible is clear—those who spend time with Jesus, start to love what He loves, and begin to turn away from what He hates. Sin is no longer attractive; in fact, sin can become repulsive to us the longer we spend with Jesus. This transformation of perspective happens as we spend time with God in His word and truth, filling our lives with His presence. This isn’t to say that temptation will never show up at our door, but perhaps we will be too busy spending time with Jesus to answer its knock.

Question to Consider:
What are some areas of your life where you need to think more like Jesus?

Prayer:
Jesus, I want to be so attuned to your heart that I begin to think like you. Renew my mind through your Holy Spirit.
