Day 23: Overcomer of Fear
Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense;
He has become my salvation.
- Isaiah 12:2, NIV
Before coming to Northwest I was full of fear. I didn’t know what my future entailed, where I was going, or how I was going to get there. The immense uncertainty I felt was paralyzing. It came to a point where I knew that if I didn’t make some serious changes in my life, I would never shake this feeling. I took a leap of faith by choosing to uproot all that was comfortable to me and transfer to a school where I knew no one. When I chose to step into fear and trust God’s plan, I was placed into an environment of peace and encouragement.
Sometimes leaning into those things that make us afraid provides opportunities to reveal our faith and trust in Christ. I still struggle with worry and anxious thoughts, but there is a truth in God’s Word that never fails to bring me back home.
I know firsthand that fear tends to dictate a lot in our lives. To be quite honest, if we let fear creep in too deep, it can change the entire trajectory of our future. But God did not create us with a spirit of fear. He created us to be bold in our faith. We are never alone because His Spirit lives within us and is relentless in the fight for a peace-filled mind.
Question to Consider
What fears have you been wanting to give up for a long time? Are you willing to give those to God today?
Prayer
Lord, although life is full of uncertainty, help me to seek truth in your Word. Fill me with a spirit of peace when I am afraid. Control my mind to focus on you and the blessings to come.
