Day 44: Doctor’s Orders
Have you ever been to the doctor’s office for a physical?
Usually, you show up just waiting for them to tell you that you are all good. You eat well, you work out – more or less – and you have stayed away from anything that would really hurt your body. You are there for a quick pat on the back and a check next to a box.
But what if the doctor told you something was wrong? What if he or she told you that you need to change something in your life, or else you will die? We take warnings like this with great seriousness. We understand the importance of listening to our doctors.
But do we always leave the same space for Christ?
Read Mark 2:13-17
In this passage, Jesus uses the image of a doctor to describe himself.
A lot of the time, when we read Scriptures about sins and things that we must do for our Christian faith, we see them as religious rules or things we must do. What if they are really God trying to point out things that are going to kill our soul, and our spirit? What if we chose to view them as the Doctor’s orders?
If a doctor told you to stop eating fatty food so you don’t die of a heart attack, you would listen. Yet when God tells us that sin will lead to death, we yell “False!” and continue to partake in the food that will slowly but surely cause our soul to give out.
Question to Consider
What are things in your life that you need to change so that you are following the Doctor’s orders?
Prayer
Jesus, I am so grateful that you know exactly what my soul needs and that gave me your Spirit to guide me in the ways of life. Please walk with me as I choose to follow in those ways today.
